CBN and sleep: a high dose helped people fall asleep faster, but did not cut night waking

A 2026 randomized trial gave 20 adults with insomnia single nights of CBN (the "sleepy" cannabinoid) at 30 mg, 300 mg and placebo, tracked in a sleep lab. The main goal, less waking during the night, did not change.
At 300 mg (vs placebo) people fell asleep faster, had more light (N2) sleep and rated their sleep better. 30 mg did nothing significant. 300 mg is a big dose, one night each, 20 people; the authors say larger, longer trials are needed.
THC + CBD: a 2025 pilot RCT (20 adults with insomnia) found one oral dose of 10 mg THC + 200 mg CBD cut total sleep by about 25 minutes and REM sleep by about 34 minutes vs placebo, with no next-day driving or thinking hit, just slightly more sleepiness. "Knocked out" isn't better sleep.
The terpene angle: in October 2026, inhaled β-myrcene helped insomnia-model mice fall asleep faster and sleep longer. Mice only.
Bottom line: CBN has an early human signal at high doses, THC can cut REM, and myrcene is mouse data so far.
Myrcene-forward strains typically: Granddaddy Purple, Northern Lights, Bubba Kush. Names vary; check the COA.

- Anxiety + mood: CBD vs THC for anxiety: CBD and balanced flower groups improved far more than THC-only
- Chronic pain: THC:CBD ratio and chronic pain: balanced or high-THC gave small drops; low-THC/high-CBD may not help
- Migraine: THC + CBD flower vs migraine: 67% got relief at 2 hours, vs 47% on placebo
- Inflammation / arthritis: β-caryophyllene and arthritis: it cut swelling in rats, while a THC pill didn't beat placebo for knee pain
- Appetite: CBD and appetite: healthy adults ate 193 kcal more after CBD, without feeling hungrier
